Amlodipine contained in Sofvasc 10mg Tablet 15 'S is prescribed to patients with high blood pressure (normal blood pressure for adults is usually 120/80 mmHg) and to patients with chest pain, who are at a high risk of suffering a heart attack. Hypertension if left untreated can cause severe damage to the brain, heart, kidney, blood vessels, and other body organs. High blood pressure is caused by the narrowing of the arteries (blood vessels that take blood to the organs) thus, Sofvasc 10mg Tablet 15 'S helps prevent the decrease in the diameter of the vessels keeping them healthy and working efficiently.
Sofvasc 10mg Tablet 15 'S belongs to a category of chemicals referred to as Calcium Channel Blockers, which hinder the entry of calcium into the blood vessels and the muscles of the heart. By blocking calcium, these chemicals prevent the vessels and heart muscles from contracting, resulting in the dilation of blood vessels and unobstructed blood flow.

Adult Dosage
Patients are commonly prescribed 5mg of Amlodipine at the beginning of the treatment, this dose may be increased to 10mg per day if need be.
Child Dosage
Sofvasc 10mg Tablet 15 'S is not prescribed to patients aged 6 years and below. For ages 12 years and above, the same dosage as for adults is prescribed. 6 to 12-year-olds are given 100-200mcg of Amlodipine, this dosage may increase to 400mcg/kg if required.
Elderly Dosage
For patients over the age of 65 years, the dosage of the drug may be lower than normal due to decreased kidney function, Sofvasc 10mg Tablet 15 'S may not be effectively removed from the body and so, in such cases, the doctor may prescribe an altered dose of the Sofvasc 10mg Tablet 15 'S.
Sofvasc 10mg Tablet 15 'S is prescribed to be ingested; orally (by mouth) either with or without food. It is advised to not stop treatment abruptly without consulting a doctor as the risk of heart failure and stroke is significantly increased without the drug. It is normal to experience the changes of the drug on your body after a minimum of 2 weeks in cases of treatment for high blood pressure. For heart disease, the changes in the body and blood pressure brought about by Sofvasc 10mg Tablet 15 'S may take weeks or maybe months to experience.
The absence of the treatment notably raises the risk of stroke. It is typical to observe the effects of the medication on your body after a minimum of two weeks during the course of treatment.
