Seleco 100mg Tablet 10 'S belongs to a class of drugs called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) which are used for moderate to severe pain relief alone or in combination. It also helps in combating signs of inflammation including swelling, stiffness, tenderness, and pain in conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, dysmenorrhea, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and muscle pain.
Seleco 100mg Tablet 10 'S is chemically composed of Celecoxib, which particularly inhibits COX-2, unlike other NSAIDs that are non-specific inhibitors of COX 1 and 2. These work by blocking inflammatory mediators and reducing pain and swelling. NSAIDs carry an increased risk of side effects on gastrointestinal including ulceration, bleeding, etc. Seleco 100mg Tablet 10 'S must not be prescribed to people with long-standing heart disease due to the potential risk of myocardial infarction.
Seleco 100mg Tablet 10 'S contains celecoxib as an active ingredient. It is by therapeutic classification, a COX-2 inhibitor that works by blocking the production of prostaglandins, a major group of chemicals involved in the inflammatory response. Prostaglandins are naturally occurring substances in the body that stimulate the inflammatory pathways when the immune system gets triggered. This way, celecoxib reduces the inflammation, swelling, and pain experienced by the patient.
Seleco 100mg Tablet 10 'S is prescribed to adults above 18 years of age to treat pain and swelling due to:
It is advised to start the treatment with a minimally effective dose which can be increased up to 400 mg if needed (do not take more than 400 mg).
Rheumatoid arthritis: 100 mg to 200 mg, twice daily.
Osteoarthritis: 100 mg twice a day, or 200 mg once a day.
Ankylosing spondylitis: 100 mg twice a day, or 200 mg once a day.
Dysmenorrhea: 400mg on day 1, then reduce the dose to 200 mg if needed. The maintenance dose is 200 mg twice a day.
Acute Pain: 400 mg once as starting dose, lower the dose to 200 mg twice a day.
Seleco 100mg Tablet 10 'S is not prescribed to children and adolescents under 18 years of age
Seleco 100mg Tablet 10 'S is processed majorly by the liver, therefore while administering the drug to elderly patients careful consideration must be given to liver and renal function while deciding upon the dose, especially if the elderly are underweight (less than 50 kgs).
Seleco 100mg Tablet 10 'S is classified as a pregnancy category C (up to 3rd trimester)) and D (towards the end of the 3rd trimester) drug, meaning there is an increased risk of harmful effects to the fetus, it is known to cause heart defects in babies. If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to conceive a baby, please do not use it before consulting your doctor before using Seleco 100mg Tablet 10 'S. If it is accessary to take Seleco 100mg Tablet 10 'S, your doctor may advise you to start contraception.
Seleco 100mg Tablet 10 'S is also secreted in human milk in minute quantity, if you are breastfeeding, please consult your doctor before taking Seleco 100mg Tablet 10 'S.
Seleco 100mg Tablet 10 'S is available in form of capsules to be taken orally by swallowing, once or twice daily, or as directed by the doctor. It is advised to have Seleco 100mg Tablet 10 'S with food if it causes an upset stomach. Avoid consumption along with antacids.
