Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S belongs to a group of chemicals known as azoles which aid in treating fungal infections such as nail infection, athlete's foot, ringworm infections, groin infection, and similar fungal conditions. Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S is chemically composed of Terbinafine, effective against a number of yeast infections. 

Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S is classified as an Azoles antifungal which acts by blocking an important enzyme involved in the synthesis of key components for the fungal cell wall, indirectly targeting it and causing fungal cell death due to altered permeability of the fungal cell walls.

Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S is available in the form of oral tablets, meant to be taken by mouth in doses prescribed by the doctor. Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S is commonly prescribed as one tablet daily and the treatment may continue for 4 - 12 weeks depending on the infection. It may take up to weeks before clinical improvements in fungal infection are seen. Not considered safe in pregnancy, Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S is safely prescribed to adults and children above 4 years of age. Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S shows its antifungal effects by blocking an important enzyme, Squalene epoxidase involved in the synthesis of key components for the fungal cell wall, indirectly targeting it and causing fungal cell death due to accumulation of toxic substances within the cell and altered permeability of the fungal cell walls.

How To Use Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S

Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S is available as oral tablets to be taken orally with or without food. Do not take more than recommended. The dose is usually given as a single tablet (once daily) and the treatment is commonly continued for 4-12 weeks or as per the patient’s condition. Make sure to complete your treatment till full prescription to avoid recurrence. Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S is not advised to be given to children under the age of 4 years. For Elderly patients, a tablet per day is prescribed, kidney and liver functions must be considered before prescribing this medicine.

Adult dose

Onychomycosis - Tinea Unguium

Fingernails: 250 mg, Once a day  orally for 6 weeks

Toenails:  250 mg, Once a day  orally for 12 weeks

Athlete's foot  - Tinea Pedis

250 mg, Once a day  orally for 2 to 6 weeks depending on improvement in the condition

Jock itch  - Tinea Cruris

250 mg, Once a day  orally for 2 to 4 weeks

Ringworm of scalp - Tinea Capitis

250 mg, Once a day  orally for 6 weeks

Pediatric Dose

Oral granules (125 mg) are more suited for children because of compliance and easy intake. However, whenever tablets are indicated in children 4 years and above, the following dose as per the child’s body weight can be used to calculate the exact dose.

Daily dose : recommended once a day for  - 5 mg/kg

< 25 mg -  62.5 mg / day

25 - 35 kg - 125 mg / day

> 40 kg - 250 mg / day

Elderly dose

In general, the dose in these patients matches those of the adults. But dose adjustment should be considered in case of kidney and liver impairment or reduced function to avoid harmful effects. In case of severe liver dysfunction, Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S should be avoided.

Special Case

*Renal Impairment: Caution must be exercised, low doses advised

Hepatic Impairment: Drug is best avoided

Pregnancy Use And Lactation

Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S contains Terbinafine in its formulation which is classified as pregnancy category B (No known risk to the fetus in studies conducted on animals and lack of data in pregnant humans). However, this drug should not be prescribed to expecting and lactating mothers due to unknown effects, and should only be prescribed if absolutely necessary after consulting a doctor. 

Contraindications

Please tell your doctor if you have a history of any of the following before using Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S:

  • Allergy to Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S or similar drugs

Please tell your doctor about any of the following conditions before using Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S

  • Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S must be used with caution if you have a history of drug-related allergies
  • In case of decreased liver function, Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S must not be used due to a high risk of liver complications
  • Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S should be used in low doses in compromised kidneys or  disease, as adjusted by your doctor
  • Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S may put you at risk of more infections because it can cause neutropenia (decreased neutrophils). It is more common in women and a reversible condition
  • Photosensitivity has also been reported while taking Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S, a good quality sunblock and full coverage with clothing is recommended when going outside
  • Autoimmune disorders like SLE or Lupus tend to worsen with Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S, avoid this medicine in this case
  • Alcohol intake should be restricted
  • Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S is known to potentiate the effects of Caffeine, these caffeinated products (including tea, coffee, soft/ or energy drinks, chocolate, etc) should therefore be avoided or limited 
  • Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S is not considered safe for pregnant and lactating mothers

How To Deal With Some Side Effects

  • Feeling or being sick (nausea or vomiting) or diarrhea -Avoid eating rich or spicy food. It might help to take medication after food. If you're sick, try drinking small, frequent sips of water.
  • Feeling drowsy - If the medication makes you feel drowsy or sleepy, stop what you're doing and sit or lie down until you feel better and do not rise too fast or immediately from a sitting or lying down position to a standing posture. Do not drive or use tools or machinery in case of any of these effects.
  • Headaches- In which case make sure you rest and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid the use of alcohol. Take a prescribed painkiller. Consult your doctor if the headaches last longer than a week or are severe
  • Feeling dizzy (lightheaded) or weak - If the medication makes you feel dizzy or weak, stop what you're doing and sit or lie down until you feel better and do not rise too fast or immediately from sitting or lying down to a standing posture. Do not drive or use tools or machinery in case of any of these effects.
  • Flatulence- This can be eased by consuming smaller, more frequent meals that don't trigger your flatulence.Getting a minimum of 30 minutes of daily exercise has shown great results in combating flatulence. 
  • Heartburn - can be dealt with by chewing on mint-flavored gum that’ll help neutralize the acid in the body. Standing up straighter, adding ginger to the daily diet, elevating the patient’s upper body, and having licorice supplements has shown to provide relief.
  • Skin Rash- can be eased by applying soothing and healing lotions or creams such as calamine lotion/cream. Apply a cold compress to the rash to help reduce itchiness and redness caused by the rash. Antihistamine (prescribed by a doctor) is also recommended as an effective way to combat any skin rash.
  • Change in taste- this tends to go away as soon as the patient stops taking the medicine but while treatment; saltwater with baking soda (half a teaspoon of salt and baking soda in water) rinses and chewing on sugar-free gum can help dissipate the change in taste.
  • Blurred vision - This side effect tends to go away on its own if a few days; patients are advised to not operate heavy machinery or drive any motorized vehicles in the meantime.If blurred vision persists, please contact your doctor.
  • Photosensitivity - Minimize exposure to the sun most importantly. Patients are asked to wear sun-protective clothes when going outside including gloves and hats, to apply generous amounts of broad-spectrum sunblock along with wearing sunglasses. Patients are advised to do all necessary work after sunset so as to reduce or eliminate sun exposure while undergoing treatment with Mycoderm 125mg Tablet 10 'S.
