Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S

Clopidogrel contained in Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S belongs to a class of drugs called “antithrombotic agents” used for the prevention of heart attacks and strokes. It helps decrease the chances of having another heart attack or stroke in patients who have a history of heart disease. It is an antiplatelet medicine or blood thinner that makes your blood flow through your veins easily. Moreover Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S helps prevent the formation of blood clots in patients who have a high risk of having them. 

How Does Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S Work

It is an antithrombotic agent used for the prevention of heart attacks and strokes. It helps decrease the chances of having another heart attack or stroke in patients who have a history of heart disease. Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S works by decreasing the formation of blood clots by preventing platelets from sticking together. Thereby, lowering the chances of heart attack or stroke.

ADULT DOSAGE: A tablet of 75MG once a day is prescribed. 

ACUTE HEART SYNDROME: A maximum of 300MG of drug can be prescribed to patients safely daily. A range between 75-100MG of the drug is most commonly prescribed to patients dealing with moderate to severe heart diseases/impairments.

How To Use Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S

Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S comes packaged in tablet form and can be ingested either with or without meals or milk. These tablets are meant to be ingested whole, without chewing or crushing them. Patients are asked to set an alarm to not forget to ingest Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S.

Tell your healthcare supervisor immediately, if you experience any of the following symptoms:

• prolonged bleeding (you may have nosebleeds, heavier periods, bleeding gums, or easy bruising) 
• Diarrhea
• Indigestion or heartburn
• Stomach ache
• Hypersensitivity/allergic skin reactions 
• Bleeding episodes
• Gastrointestinal (stomach and bowel) disorder
• Haematoma (localized bleeding outside a blood vessel)
• Nervous system disorder
• Hepatic (liver) impairment
• Biliary disorder 
• Haematological (blood-related) disorders
• Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura 
• Stevens-Johnson syndrome

Contraindications

Please tell your doctor if you have a history of any of the following before using Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S:

• Allergy to Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S or any other medicine (especially any antibiotic) or food substance 
• Severe hepatic (liver) impairment
• Active bleeding such as peptic ulcer (stomach sore) or 
• Intracranial hemorrhage (brain bleed)
• Myocardial infarction (heart attack)
• PTCA (stenting)
• CABG (surgery improving blood flow to the heart)
• Acute ischaemic stroke (blood clot in a vessel in the brain) of less than 7 days
• Pregnant women 
• Lactating women

Precautions

Please tell your doctor about any of the following conditions before using Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S: 

• Elderly
• Mild to moderate renal disease/impairment
• Mild to moderate hepatic disease/impairment
• Surgery
• Risk of bleeding 
• Blood dyscrasias (disorders)
• Risk of acquired hemophilia (a condition characterized by the inability of blood to clot)

Please inform your doctor about the use of the following before taking Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S:

• Anticoagulants
• Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors
• Thrombolytics
• NSAIDs (such as Ibuprofen)
• SSRIs (e.g.Citalopram) 
• Pentoxifylline
• PPIs and other moderate or strong CYP2C19 inhibitors
• CYP2C8 substrates (e.g. repaglinide).

It starts working within 2 hours of taking it. 

#2. How long will I have to consume Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S for?

The duration for using Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S depends on the severity of your condition. It could be prescribed for a few weeks or months, or you may have to take it for a lifetime.

#3. Can I stop taking Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S?

Do not just stop taking the medicine, make sure to complete your treatment course even if you feel better. Stopping it will result in the re-formation of blood clots at a rate at which they were before you started taking Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S. As a result, you will be at a higher risk of serious problems like heart attacks or strokes. 

#4. What if I take too much off Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S?

If you have accidentally taken 1 or 2 extra tablets, it is unlikely to harm you but the amount of Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S that can lead to overdose varies from person to person. Hence, contact your doctor immediately if you have taken extra tablets and notice any sign of bleeding. 

#5. Can I take Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S during my pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, please consult your doctor before using Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S as it is contraindicated. Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S is also not recommended for lactating women.

#6. How does Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S compare with other antiplatelet medicines like Ticagrelor?

They both work to prevent blood clots and future heart attacks (if you have already had one) but the latter is not approved to prevent further strokes (if you have already had one). Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S is usually taken once a day unlike ticagrelor which is taken twice a day and Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S is known to cause less bleeding when compared to ticagrelor. 

#7. Is there any food or drink I need to avoid while undergoing treatment with Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S?

Grapefruit juice may increase the blood-thinning effect of your medicine; hence it is advised not to drink it when taking Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S. 

#8. Will I have to stop taking Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S before surgery or dental treatment?

Do not stop taking Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S without consulting with your doctor or dentist. You will be informed if you need to stop taking it before any procedure. You might be advised to stop taking it for a short time before a procedure because of the risk of bleeding. 

#9. Does Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S affect blood pressure?

It may cause a decrease in blood pressure as a side effect. However, this is very rare and is not experienced by everyone. Consult your doctor if you feel dizzy, lightheaded, weak, or have blurred vision as these could be symptoms of low blood pressure. 

#10. How should Lowplat 75mg Tablet 10 'S be stored?

Keep the medicine at room temperature in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Make sure it is not consumed by pets, children, and other people. Dispose of unused medicine when it is expired or no longer needed.
