Dosage

Doses are adjusted as per need, and monitoring of serum LDL, HDL, Total cholesterol, and triglyceride levels are done periodically at 4 to 8 weeks interval before adjustment

Adult Dosage

These doses are generally recommended for the following conditions:

Hypertriglyceridemia / Hypercholesterolemia 

Starting Dose: 900 mg taken orally, twice daily in divided doses (30 minutes before breakfast and evening meal) which can be increased up to 1200 mg as per need

Or 600 mg to be  taken orally, twice daily at 12 hourly intervals (30 minutes before breakfast and evening meal)

Maximum Safe Dose:  1200 mg per day

Child dosage

Gempid 600mg Tablet 10 'S is not prescribed to children and adolescents under 18 years of age

Elderly Dosage

Dosage in the elderly population is dependent on several factors. Due to potential harmful effects, caution must be exercised. Discuss with your doctor. 

*Special Dose

If there is mild to moderate kidney dysfunction, treatment must be initiated after checking serum creatinine levels

Gempid 600mg Tablet 10 'S is categorized as FDA pregnancy category C which means it should not be taken during pregnancy due to potentially harmful effects on unborn babies. Therefore, if you are pregnant, or are planning to conceive a baby, please do discuss Gempid 600mg Tablet 10 'S with your doctor before using it. 

If you are breastfeeding an infant ask your doctor first, for some amount of medicine is secreted into the breast milk. With regards to safety please make sure to consult your doctor first before using it. It will only be prescribed if considered necessary.

Contraindications

Precautions‌

Please‌ ‌tell‌ ‌your‌ ‌doctor‌ ‌about‌ ‌any‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌following‌ ‌conditions‌ before starting or during the treatment with ‌Gempid 600mg Tablet 10 'S:‌ 

  • If there is a history of allergy to medicines or products. Carefully read the contents of this product to avoid any future inconvenience 
  • Adequacy of kidney functions must be ensured, and dose adjustment is required in case of compromised function. Serum creatinine values must be checked regularly 
  • Adequacy of liver functions must be ensured. ALT/AST levels should be checked periodically. In case of severe deranged liver function, Gempid 600mg Tablet 10 'S will be discontinued 
  • Special care must be taken with  Gempid 600mg Tablet 10 'S especially if anti-hyperlipidemic like Statins are being taken concurrently. There is an increased risk of muscular problems like rhabdomyolysis, and weakness. Caution is advised especially if you are a diabetic or elderly 
  • Most patients with cardiovascular disease are taking some type of blood thinners, which can cause bleeding problems. Dose adjustment and monitoring of INR/PT are advised with concomitant use of anticoagulants
  • An increased risk of gallstones exists with the use of Gempid 600mg Tablet 10 'S. If you already have a gallbladder disease you must not use this medicine
  • The use of Gempid 600mg Tablet 10 'S in pregnant females carries a risk to unborn babies so it must not be used unless considered necessary  
  • Before using Gempid 600mg Tablet 10 'S reduced thyroid function must be informed to doctor
  • Regular monitoring of serum cholesterol, LDL, HDL, Triglycerides, creatinine, and Transaminase is advised
  • Before you start taking  Gempid 600mg Tablet 10 'S you must start a low-fat and salt-restricted diet as well as exercise

  • Allergic Reactions - Allergic reactions to the drug may be mild to severe or potentially could be life-threatening. If allergy is suspected immediately take anti-allergy (antihistamine) medicine which will stop the mild reaction. If a serious allergic reaction is suspected, rush to the nearby hospital and avoid Gempid 600mg Tablet 10 'S and drugs with similar compounds in the future.
  • Headaches - In which case make sure you rest and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid the use of alcohol. Take a prescribed painkiller. Consult your doctor if the headaches last longer than a week or are severe
  • Feeling sick (nausea or vomiting) or diarrhea - Avoid eating rich or spicy food. It might help to take medication after food. If you're sick, try drinking small, frequent sips of water. 
  • Feeling dizzy (lightheaded) or weak - If the medication makes you feel dizzy or weak, stop what you're doing and sit or lie down until you feel better, and do not rise too fast or immediately from a sitting or lying down position to a standing posture. Do not drive or use tools or machinery in case of any of these effects.
  • Muscular Aches and Pains - A hot or cold compress can be placed at the area of discomfort to bring relief; an over-the-counter pain reliever such as paracetamol or ibuprofen can be ingested to bring ease as well. Avoid high-intensity exercise while suffering from muscular pain.
  • Skin Rash - Can be eased by applying soothing and healing lotions or creams such as calamine lotion/cream. Apply a cold compress to the rash helps reduce itchiness and redness caused by the rash.
