Hyperfunctioning urinary bladder can be a source of great discomfort, interfering with the normal routine. It is clinically manifested as an unexpected and instant need to pass urine, which could be due to a number of reasons, including lower body trauma, infection, medicines, etc. Detrusitol 2mg Tablet 14 'S are a medicine that belongs to a class of drugs called antimuscarinics, used to control overactive bladder or OAB. This is available as oral tablets, required to be taken once, daily. 

 

How Does Detrusitol 2mg Tablet 14 'S Work

Detrusitol 2mg Tablet 14 'S is chemically composed of tolterodine, an anti-muscarinic agent. In a normal bladder, urine is passed out of the body when the bladder, storing the waste liquid, feels the pressure building inside and starts to tighten. Detrusitol 2mg Tablet 14 'S helps bladder muscles to relax, allowing it to hold the urine for longer. 


Detrusitol 2mg Tablet 14 'S can be used to treat: 

  • Overactive bladder 

Dosage

Adult Dose

One tablet (2 mg) is to be taken orally, once every day

If the patient has a problem taking a 2 mg dose, split the dosage to 1 mg, taken twice a day

Child Dose

Not recommended for this age group 

Elderly Dose

Regarding the dosage for the elderly, caution is advised. Follow your doctor’s prescription

 

How To Use Detrusitol 2mg Tablet 14 'S

Detrusitol 2mg Tablet 14 'S is available in the form of oral capsules, to be taken once a day till the end of the prescription. Swallow the capsules with a glass of water without chewing, this can be taken with or without food. Strictly follow your doctor’s advice without extending the duration of intake. 


Inform your healthcare supervisor immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Allergic reaction 
  • Gastric symptoms of nausea, constipation
  • Fatigue 
  • Drowsiness 
  • Dizziness 
  • Dry mouth/eyes
  • Visual disturbance 
  • Dysuria 
  • Glaucoma 
  • Headache 
  • Mental confusion 
  • Retention of urine
  • Pain in the eyes 
  • Palpitation 
  • Tachycardia 
  • Weight gain 
  • Swelling of feet 

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Detrusitol 2mg Tablet 14 'S
  • Urinary retention 
  • Toxic megacolon 
  • Narrow-angle glaucoma 
  • Myasthenia gravis 
  • Ulcerative colitis 

Precautions

Please tell your doctor about any of the following conditions before using Detrusitol 2mg Tablet 14 'S:

  • If you have a history of drug-related allergies. Read the contents of this medicine carefully 
  • If there is also a urinary tract infection, appropriate treatment must be sought
  • If you feel you have slow GI activity (bowel motion), caution is advised
  • In case you experience difficult or painful urination, consult your doctor
  • Adequacy of kidney function must be ensured. Dose adjustment may be required 
  • For patients who have glaucoma, Detrusitol 2mg Tablet 14 'S must be used with caution
  • Detrusitol 2mg Tablet 14 'S must be used in the elderly age group since mental confusion and vertigo may be more pronounced in this age group 
  • Before starting Detrusitol 2mg Tablet 14 'S pregnant and/or breastfeeding females should consult a doctor first 
  • If you have a heart condition like blood pressure or rhythm problems, special care is advised
  • Caffeine intake in large amounts is not advised if you are suffering from incontinence and frequent urination. See FAQs for details 
  • Alcohol consumption must be avoided with Detrusitol 2mg Tablet 14 'S.
  • It may cause drowsiness. Refrain from driving, cycling, or operating machinery or sharp tools until you feel fully alert.
  • Electrolyte balance such as potassium, magnesium, and calcium must be maintained, check with a doctor in case these fall low.

Always provide correct information to the doctor about all the drugs that you are currently taking. Certain drugs may interact with Detrusitol 2mg Tablet 14 'S, discuss with your doctor.

  • Antifungals like ketoconazole 
  • Certain antibiotics like macrolide(clarithromycin, erythromycin, etc.)
  • Prokinetic agents like metoclopramide, cisapride 
  • Anti-arrhythmic agents like quinidine, amiodarone
  • Other antimuscarinic/cholinergic antagonists
  • Anti-HIV medicines like Saquinavir
  • Antimalarials like chloroquine 

# 1. How To Store Detrusitol 2mg Tablet 14 'S?

Store it at room temperature below 30 °C, away from excess heat, direct sunlight, and moisture. Keep the medicines out of reach of children and pets. Properly dispose of any unused medication.

#2. Can I take Detrusitol 2mg Tablet 14 'S during my pregnancy?

If you are pregnant or are planning to have a baby, please consult your doctor before using Detrusitol 2mg Tablet 14 'S as it may pose a threat to the unborn baby. If you are breastfeeding, it is not advised to take Detrusitol 2mg Tablet 14 'S as it may pose a risk to your baby.

Avoid consuming alcohol in large amounts when taking Detrusitol 2mg Tablet 14 'S to prevent the risk of adverse effects. 

#9. Can I drive or ride a bike while taking Detrusitol 2mg Tablet 14 'S?

Usually  Detrusitol 2mg Tablet 14 'S  is known to cause dizziness so make sure you know how your body reacts while using this drug. Do not drive or use machinery until you feel normal again

#10. Are there any lifestyle changes that I need to make for OAB?

A number of lifestyle modifications can help you with your hyperfunctioning bladder:

  • First, assess the pattern of how and when you use the restroom.
  • Specialized programs to train your bladder can help you adapt to your condition.
  • Caffeinated drinks and products that will disturb your bladder unnecessarily. Drinks like coffee, tea, colas, chocolates, etc should be avoided.
  • Focus to enhance the stability and strength of the pelvis floor, which may be done with exercises.
  • Alcohol consumption should be restricted. 
  • OAB tends to disturb sleep at night, try to increase the fluid intake during the day.
  • Regularly take your medicines and keep a follow-up with your doctor.
