Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S is an inhalation medicine available as dry powder for inhalation sealed in rota capsules. 

 

How Does Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S Work

Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S is chemically composed of a combination of Budesonide, a corticosteroid, and Formoterol fumarate, a beta-agonist. The steroid component works by controlling and inhibiting the inflammatory reaction and limiting the release of chemical substances involved in inflammation such as leukotrienes, histamine and cytokines, and many others. Whereas, the beta-agonist helps maintain the patency of the airway, opening it up and easing out the breathing process.


Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S can be used to treat:

  • Asthma 
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

Dosage

Adult Dose

The doses are individualized according to the patient’s condition and response to the treatment, hence adjusted as per need. 

Generally, it is prescribed as 1 to 2 inhalations, once or twice a day but consult a doctor for the exact dosage in our case. 

Child Dose

Not suggested for children less than 12 years of age. Doses are individualized, discuss them with a doctor 

Elderly Dose

Use in consultation with a doctor, caution is advised

 

How To Use Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S

Read the instruction manual available with the medicine carefully to help you understand the setup and functioning. Rotacaps contain powdered medicine, sealed inside. It is used with the help of a device called a rotahaler in the following way. Start by exhaling. Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S is placed inside the device, and by opening the mouth such that your lips encircle the mouthpiece, creating a tight seal. Take a deep breath and try to retain it for 10 seconds to enable the medication to get to your lungs. Usually, one inhalation is prescribed. If you notice any remaining medicine inside the device, inhale until the entire powder has been consumed. Before stopping the medicine altogether, it must be decreased in increments gradually.


Inform your healthcare supervisor immediately, if you notice any of the following symptoms in your baby:

  • Allergic reaction 
  • Headache
  • Deep voice (hoarse)
  • Sore throat 
  • Cough 
  • Dry mouth 
  • Fungal infections
  • Burning sensation on lips 
  • Sinusitis 
  • Palpitations 
  • Restlessness

  • High blood sugar

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S
  • Chronic heart conditions
  • Hypokalemia (low potassium in the blood)
  • Arrhythmia
  • ECG irregularities (prolonged QT interval)
  • Hyperactive thyroid 
  • Diabetes mellitus 
  • Allergies related to milk protein
  • Paradoxical bronchospasm

Precautions

  • Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S must be used with caution if you have a history of drug-related allergies.
  • Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S may initially cause worsening symptoms like wheezing or chest tightness in which case consult a doctor right away.
  • If there is a history of TB or viral infections caution is advised. Avoid contact with patients likely to give you viral exposure.
  • History of heart diseases/conditions must be discussed with a doctor first.
  • ECG or EKG may be done to monitor your heart function periodically.
  • Long-term use of Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S alters the bone mineralization and can make your bones weak, be careful not to injure yourself for it may put you at risk of fractures.
  • Watch out for the signs of adrenal suppression if you are taking Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S on a long-term basis.
  • Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S can disturb your visual ability /eyesight contact your doctor if you experience this.
  • The inhalation device must be kept clean, making sure to change the mouthpiece covering every few weeks upon frequent use.
  • Avoid stopping Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S abruptly without asking a doctor. Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S is a steroid-based medicine that can cause side effects upon improper use and termination of treatment.
  • Caution is advised in patients using Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S, in these cases, there is a risk of pneumonia.

Always provide correct information to the doctor about all the drugs that you are currently taking. Following drugs may interact with Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S, a few of which are: 

  • Steroids or steroid-containing drugs like dexamethasone 
  • MAO inhibitors (antidepressants) like selegiline, isocarboxazid 
  • Dopamine agonists for Parkinson’s like Levodopa 
  • Thyroid medicines like Levothyroxine 
  • Diuretics or waterpills
  • oxytocic hormones like oxytocin
  • Antihistamines like terfenadine
  • Heart medicines like digoxin
  • Respiratory drugs (Xanthines) like Theophylline 
  • Anesthetics like procainamide 
  • Antiarrhythmics like quinidine 
  • Alcohol  

# 1. How to store Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S?

Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S is to be kept away from the reach of children and pets, in a cool dry place below 30°C, away from direct sunlight and humidity. Do not freeze this medicine. 

#2. Can I take Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S during my pregnancy?

Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S is not prescribed during pregnancy however, regarding its safe use you must consult a doctor who will only prescribe it if considered absolutely necessary.  

#3. What if I forget to take Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S?

It is advised to take the drug at the same time each day, an alarm can be placed to remind patients to take Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S at the proper time. If the patient misses a dose of Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S, they should take it immediately but if the time for the next dose of the drug is near then it's advised to skip the missed dose and take Combivair 200 Rotacap 200mcg+6mcg Capsule 10 'S as per schedule, doubling of doses may result in severe side effects.

#4. How can I clean my rota haler?

Make sure to properly clean your inhaler at least once every other week. Empty the device by removing the capsule shells.  Clean both halves of the plastic body and mouthpiece with warm water and dry with cloth or tissue paper. Leave them out to dry before putting them back in the canister. The mouthpiece covering should be replaced frequently. Read the manual for illustrations.
