Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S is an antipsychotic medication and belongs to a group of drugs known as Psychotherapeutic Combos. Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S is a combination of medications that are used to treat bipolar disorder-related depression (manic depression). This medication is prescribed when other drugs have failed for treatment. Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S contains Olanzapine and Fluoxetine as active ingredients. Olanzapine and fluoxetine function in the brain by enhancing the activity of neurotransmitters known as serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. These substances aid in the alleviation of depression symptoms. Olanzapine is a type of antipsychotic medication and Fluoxetine is an antidepressant that belongs to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor class of drugs (SSRIs). 

Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S is available as a tablet form that is taken orally (by mouth) usually once daily in the evening, with or without food by adults and children (10-17yrs), or as directed by your doctor. Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S is not prescribed for children under 10 years of age and with older adults with dementia-related psychosis (as it can increase the risk of death in such patients). Avoid using Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S as a dangerous drug interaction can occur if you have used an MAO inhibitor in the last 14 days. Antidepressants can induce suicidal thoughts and behavioral changes in children, adolescents, and young adults. Monitor for worsening and the onset of suicidal thoughts and actions in patients of all ages who are starting antidepressant medication. Advise family members and caregivers on the importance of constant monitoring and communication with the healthcare provider.

Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S contains Olanzapine and Fluoxetine as active ingredients. How to use Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S

Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S is available in tablet form. This medication in tablet form is taken by mouth usually once daily in the evening by an adult and children (10-17yrs), with or without food or as directed by your doctor.

  • It is recommended to take Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S in the evening because sleepiness is one of the common side effects of this medicine.
  • Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S can make your body unable to control its temperature, try to remain hydrated to prevent overheating
  • Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S can decrease your blood pressure while changing positions such as from sitting to standing, to avoid falling and injuring yourself, be cautious when changing positions. 
  • If you're using pimozide or thioridazine, or other kinds of fluoxetine or olanzapine, you shouldn't use this medicine
  • Your symptoms may take up to four weeks to improve. If your symptoms do not improve after taking Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S as advised, contact your doctor.  
  • You should not abruptly discontinue using Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S. To taper your dose, follow your doctor's recommendations.

Adult dosage:

Initial dose: Fluoxetine 25 mg and olanzapine 6 mg orally, once a day in the evening

Maintenance dose: Fluoxetine: 25 to 50 mg orally once a day

                               Olanzapine: 3 to 12 mg orally once a day

Maximum dose: Fluoxetine 50 mg and olanzapine 12 mg orally, once a day in the evening

Child Dosage:

Children 10-17 years of age:

Initial dose: Fluoxetine 25 mg and olanzapine 3 mg orally, once a day in the evening

Maintenance dose: Fluoxetine: 25 to 50 mg orally once a day

                               Olanzapine: 6 to 12 mg orally once a day

Maximum dose: Fluoxetine 50 mg and olanzapine 12 mg orally, once a day in the evening

Elderly dosage:

Initial dose: Fluoxetine 25 mg and olanzapine 3 mg to Fluoxetine 25 mg and olanzapine 6 mg orally once a day in the evening

Pregnancy and Lactation

If you're pregnant, talk to your doctor about using Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S. Taking an SSRI antidepressant late in pregnancy might lead to major medical problems for the baby. If you stop taking your antidepressant, you may have a recurrence of depression. If you become pregnant, call your doctor right away. Do not start or stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor. 

Breastfeeding may not be safe while taking Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S. However if Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S was used throughout pregnancy or if other antidepressants were ineffective, it has been recommended that it can be continued while breastfeeding. Alternatively, when nursing a newborn or premature infant, drugs with a lower excretion into breast milk may be chosen. Inquire with your doctor about any potential risks. 

Contraindications

Do not take Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S and consult your doctor if you have a medical history of any of the following:

  • Allergic/hypersensitive to Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S and its contents, or any food product (such as pork, beef, etc)
  • If you're using pimozide or thioridazine, or other kinds of fluoxetine or olanzapine, you shouldn't use this medicine
  • Avoid using Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S as a dangerous drug interaction can occur if you have used an MAO inhibitor in the last 14 days. 
  • Coadministration can result in Serotonin syndrome: symptoms include myoclonus, diaphoresis, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, tremor, hyperthermia with characteristics resembling neuroleptic malignant syndrome, change in mental status leading to delirium and coma
  • After discontinuing treatment with Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S, do not take an MAO inhibitor for at least 5 weeks. 
  • Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S is not prescribed for children under 10 years of age
  • Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S is not prescribed for older adults with dementia-related psychosis (as it can increase the risk of death in such patients).

Precautions

Take special care and please tell your doctor about any of the following conditions before using Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S:

  • Liver disease
  • Heart problems
  • Narrow-angle glaucoma
  • Breast cancer
  • Bleeding problems
  • A seizure
  • A stroke
  • Low White Blood Cell counts
  • History of Diabetes, high cholesterol or triglycerides can increase your blood sugar levels and cholesterol leading to large appetite and weight gain

  • In patients treated with fluoxetine, postmarketing incidences of QT interval prolongation and cardiac arrhythmia, including torsade de pointes, have been documented
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S can induce a life-threatening condition called Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS):
  • Symptoms include high fever, confusion, muscle stiffness, sweating, changes in heart rate and blood pressure
  • A serious skin reaction called Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia can occur due to Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S:
  • Symptoms include fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes

Interactions With Other Medications

Consult your doctor about the use of the following medicines before using Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S:

  • Lorazepam
  • amphetamine/dextroamphetamine
  • Cyclobenzaprine
  • Clonazepam
  • Fluoxetine
  • Topiramate
  • HIV drugs
  • Antimalarial drugs
  • Cancer drugs
  • Drugs used for heart problem
  • Drugs used for mental illness
  • Drugs used for infections
  • Drugs used for asthma
  • NSAIDs such as aspirin and Ibuprofen
  • Drugs that make you drowsy and slow down your breathing such as opioids, a muscle relaxer, cold or allergy medicine, sleeping pill, etc

  • High doses of Co-Depricap 3mg+25mg Capsule 7 'S can cause a serious irreversible movement disorder especially in women and older adults (includes uncontrollable muscle movements of lips, tongue, face, eyes, arms, or legs
  • Unusual bleeding or bruising
  • Vision changes
  • Fast or pounding heartbeats, shortness of breath, fluttering in your chest, dizziness (like you might pass out) 
  • Symptoms of dehydration include extreme thirst or heat, inability to urinate, intense perspiration, or hot, dry skin. 
  • significant nervous system reaction: stiff/rigid muscles, high fever, sweating, disorientation, fast or irregular heartbeats, tremors, feeling faint
  • Signs of elevated blood sugar: Increased thirst, increased urination, hunger, fruity breath odor, confusion, upset stomach
  • Signs of low sodium level: headache, slurred speech, severe weakness, vomiting, loss of coordination, unsteadiness
  • Symptoms of low white blood cell count: Fever, chills, mouth sores, skin sores, sore throat, cough, and difficulty breathing 
  • Seek medical help immediately, If you have signs of serotonin syndrome including agitation, hallucinations, fever, sweating, shivering, high heart rate, muscle stiffness, twitching, loss of coordination, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea,

How To Cope With Some Of The Adverse Effects

  • Dry Mouth- Can be helped by sipping water throughout the day, chewing sugarless gum and using alcohol-free mouthwash, allowing ice to melt in the mouth, or using a saliva substitute
  • Fever- patients are asked to ingest over the counter painkillers (such as Paracetamol), partake in plenty of fluids, and rest for a couple of days till the symptoms pass
  • Blurred vision- This side effect tends to go away on its own in a few days; patients are advised to not operate heavy machinery or drive any motorized vehicles in the meantime.If blurred vision persists, please contact your doctor.
  • Skin Rash- can be eased by applying soothing and healing lotions or creams such as calamine lotion/cream. Apply a cold compress to the rash to help reduce itchiness and redness caused by the rash. Antihistamine (prescribed by a doctor) is also recommended as an effective way to combat any skin rash.
  • Dehydration- Patients are recommended to always care around a water bottle with them wherever they go and periodically keep sipping to prevent thirst and extremely dry mouth. Ice pops in hot weather and energy drinks (verified by the doctor) help combat dehydration.
