Cedrox 1000mg Tablet 5 'S belongs to a class of drugs called “Cephalosporins”, specifically used in the treatment of bacterial infections. It is known to be Beta-Lactam, a broad-spectrum antibiotic i.e it works against a wide range of disease-causing bacteria. Cedrox 1000mg Tablet 5 'S is chemically composed of Cefadroxil, a 1st generation cephalosporin. It is effective against a variety of gram-negative bacteria and also some gram-positive microbes. 

Cedrox 1000mg Tablet 5 'S is used in the treatment of bacterial infections such as bronchitis (infection of the airway tubes leading to the lungs), infections of the ears, throat, tonsils, and urinary tract and skin. It is not effective against viral infections such as flu or viral fever. Therefore, using any antibiotic when it is not required may decrease its efficacy for future infections. On the other hand, some people might be allergic to penicillin antibiotics and they will also not be able to take Cedrox 1000mg Tablet 5 'S.

They work by preventing the bacteria from forming an important compound (peptidoglycan) for their protective outer coating, called the cell wall essential to bacterial cell survival, growth, and multiplication, thereby killing them. 

How To Use Cedrox 1000mg Tablet 5 'S

Cedrox 1000mg Tablet 5 'S is to be taken orally (by mouth) twice daily or as directed by the doctor. It is advised to have Cedrox 1000mg Tablet 5 'S with food if it causes an upset stomach. If Cedrox 1000mg Tablet 5 'S is to be taken more than once in a day, the patient is advised to take the doses at the same time each day keeping a 6 or 8-12 hour gap in between each dose. Cedrox 1000mg Tablet 5 'S is available in tablets as well as in liquid form.

If you miss a dose of the medication, make sure you take it as soon as possible on that same day. If you don’t remember you missed the dose until the next dose time or the next day, do not double the dose and take your medication as per schedule. Dosage

Adult Dosage

For adults tablets, capsules or injections are recommended for better clinical results. 

The recommended adult dose varies according to the severity of the infection which may be taken for 7-10 days till resolution of infection

• Urinary tract Infection: 2 grams in divided doses with 12 hours gap in between
• Skin Infections: 1 gram in divided doses with 12 hours gap in between
• Pharyngitis: 1 gram in divided doses with 12 hours gap in between

Child Dosage

Children are usually prescribed suspension/or syrups but children above 12 years of age can be given capsules/ or tablets, in dosage depending on their weight and age, the severity of infection 

• For tonsils, pharyngitis, impetigo, and other severe infections recommended daily dose: 30 mg/kg/day doses, twice daily, every 12 hours

Maximum Safe dose: 1 g per day for 7-10 days

• For mild to moderate Urinary tract infections and other bacteria infections: recommended daily dose: 15 mg/kg/day doses, twice daily, every 12 hours

Maximum Safe dose: 2 g per day for 7-10 days

It must be stated that the maximum dose tends to vary with condition and patient’s general health.

Elderly Dosage 

For elderly patients that are susceptible to kidney and liver problems, a lowered dose of Cedrox 1000mg Tablet 5 'S may be prescribed under the care and supervision of a physician. If you suffer from kidney disease, the dosage is guided by creatinine clearance values.

Pregnancy Use And Lactation

 Cedrox 1000mg Tablet 5 'S is classified as a pregnancy category B drug by FDA (meaning no evidence of any risk to the fetus in controlled animal trials but insufficient data is available). • Fatigue - Patients experiencing this adverse effect are advised to take deep breaths, intake tea or coffee, get a good night’s rest, and not overburden themselves for a few days
• Stomach upset (nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea) - Avoid eating rich or spicy food. It might help to take the medication with food. It is important to have plenty of fluids during this time.
• Loss of appetite - Having smaller meals at regular mealtimes or regular intervals is advised. The patient is asked to snack on healthy and nutritious snacks such as dry fruits throughout the day.
