Brufen 100mg/5ml Suspension 120 ml is used to treat symptoms such as fever, dental pain, cold and flu symptoms, pain associated with sprains, and other minor injuries, in patients aged 15 years and below. Brufen 100mg/5ml Suspension 120 ml belongs to a group of drugs known as NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and mainly works by blocking the natural chemical groups that cause inflammation in the human body. This medication is available in tablet as well as syrup form.

 

How Does Brufen 100mg/5ml Suspension 120 ml Work

Brufen 100mg/5ml Suspension 120 ml works by blocking the production of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are hormones naturally produced in the body, helping carry out inflammatory responses in the body when needed. By preventing prostaglandins from carrying out their inflammatory functions, Brufen 100mg/5ml Suspension 120 ml is able to aid in the reduction of inflammation and swelling experienced by a patient.


Brufen 100mg/5ml Suspension 120 ml can be used to treat:

  • Teething problems
  • Fever 
  • Cold and flu symptoms
  • Sprains and other minor injuries
  • Dysmenorrhoea

Dosage

Adult Dosage

Pain & Fever: 200 to 400mg 4 to 6 hourly. The dose should not exceed more than 1.2gm a day.

Dysmenorrhoea: 1200 to 1800 mg a day in total (in divided doses). The dose should not exceed more than 2400mg in a day.

Other Inflammatory Conditions: 200 to 400mg 6 to 8 hourly.

Child Dosage

3 - 6 months: 50mg (half teaspoon) 3 times a day for children weighing more than 5 kgs.

6 months - 1 year: 50mg (half teaspoon)  3 to 4 times a day.

1 - 4 years: 100mg (1 teaspoon) 3 times a day.

4 - 7 years: 150mg 3 to 4 times a day.

7 - 10 years: 200mg 3 times a day.

10 - 12 years: 300mg 2 times a day.

12 - 18 years: Initial dose is 300 to 400mg 3 to 4 times daily, and maintenance dose is 200 to 400mg 3 times daily.

Brufen 100mg/5ml Suspension 120 ml is not recommended for children under 3 months of age or who weigh under 5 kgs.

Pregnancy Use And Lactation

Brufen 100mg/5ml Suspension 120 ml is not to be taken or prescribed to expecting and lactating mothers as it may have fatal consequences for the unborn child. If you are taking the drug and become pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. Small amounts of this drug can be transferred to the child through breast milk and therefore Brufen 100mg/5ml Suspension 120 ml isn't recommended to lactating mothers. If you are planning to conceive and are taking Brufen 100mg/5ml Suspension 120 ml as treatment, then refer to the doctor. The physician is likely to change your medicine and dosage.

 

How To Use Brufen 100mg/5ml Suspension 120 ml

Brufen 100mg/5ml Suspension 120 ml is to be ingested 2-3 daily by mouth. Brufen 100mg/5ml Suspension 120 ml is advised to be ingested with food as it may cause an upset stomach. Brufen 100mg/5ml Suspension 120 ml may even be ingested with milk or an antacid to prevent an upset stomach. Alcohol usage, as well as cigarette smoking, is not advised while undergoing treatment with Brufen 100mg/5ml Suspension 120 ml as it may increase the patient’s risk of stomach ulcers. Brufen 100mg/5ml Suspension 120 ml can be ingested 3-4 times a day, each dose is advised to be spaced out evenly (a gap of 4- 6 hours between each dose) throughout the day.
