Ampiclox 250mg/5ml Suspension 90 ml belongs to a class of drugs called “beta-lactam antibacterials/penicillins” whose working action is categorized as broad-spectrum. Ampiclox 250mg/5ml Suspension 90 ml is used to treat various bacterial infections, such as chest infections (including pneumonia), urinary tract infections, dental abscesses, ear infections, wound infections, septicemia, and bone infections. Moreover, Ampiclox 250mg/5ml Suspension 90 ml is extracted from fungal sources, available as an oral suspension, and more suited for children.

 

 How Does Ampiclox 250mg/5ml Suspension 90 ml Work

Ampiclox 250mg/5ml Suspension 90 ml is a combination antibiotic from the penicillin group of medicines that works by preventing the formation of the protective bacterial cell wall, essential for the survival of the bacteria. Ampiclox 250mg/5ml Suspension 90 ml also contains cloxacillin, responsible for countering beta-lactamase, associated with penicillin resistance. In combination with Ampicillin, Ampiclox 250mg/5ml Suspension 90 ml can target resistant bacteria as well including methicillin-resistant strains (MRSA).


Various bacterial  infections can be treated using Ampiclox 250mg/5ml Suspension 90 ml, such as :

  • Upper and lower respiratory tract infections
  • ENT (eyes, nose, and throat) infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Infections affecting Skin and soft tissue
  • Dental infections (dental abscesses - accumulation of pus inside teeth and gums)
  • Gonorrhea (sexually-transmitted diseases)
  • Meningitis 
  • Prophylaxis of bacterial endocarditis (bacterial infection of the inner layer of the heart or heart valves)

Dosage

Adult Dose

Mostly capsules or injections are prescribed for this age group, as follows:

Mild to moderate infections: 250 to 500 mg, every 8 to 12 hours

Severe infection: 1 to 2  g, every 8 to 10 hours or as prescribed

Child Dose

Children aged between 2 to 12 years, can be given this suspension in the following dosage, depending on the seriousness of the infection:

5 to 10 ml of suspension to be given orally, at 6 hourly intervals

Children aged less than 2 years and Neonates are generally given oral drops

Elderly Dose

Capsules and injectable solutions are more suited for this age group. Follow the doctor’s prescription given to you.

 

How To Use Ampiclox 250mg/5ml Suspension 90 ml

Ampiclox 250mg/5ml Suspension 90 ml comes in the form of dry oral suspension packaged in a glass bottle with a calibrated spoon or cup (with mL markings) to take out accurate doses.  Read the label carefully to determine the exact amount of liquid that needs to be added to form a suspension. A mark is mostly given on the bottle, alternatively, the volume can be measured separately and added to the bottle. 

Before you take out individual doses, shake the bottle vigorously.  Do not use household spoons or utensils for this purpose, alternatively, a syringe (remove the needle) can be purchased from a pharmacy for dosing purposes. Swallow the prescribed amount with a glass of water with or without a meal. It is usually taken 2 to 4 times a day at 6 to 12-hourly intervals. Make sure to complete the entire course even if you feel better, which may last for 7 to 14 days depending on the severity.

  • Hypersensitivity to penicillin or cephalosporins

Precautions

Please tell your doctor about any of the following conditions before using Ampiclox 250mg/5ml Suspension 90 ml:

  • Allergy to Ampiclox 250mg/5ml Suspension 90 ml or other penicillins
  • kidney impairment, ensure its adequacy 
  • A compromised liver function can cause problems 
  • History of Ampiclox 250mg/5ml Suspension 90 ml associated or penicillin-associated jaundice or hepatic (liver) dysfunction.
  • Do not use this medicine for viral or fungal infections, such as infectious mononucleosis 
  • Watch out for signs of acute leukemia while using Ampiclox 250mg/5ml Suspension 90 ml 
  • It is important to wait for some time before getting immunizations /live bacterial vaccines if your child is taking antibiotics for an infection 
  • With long-term use of Ampiclox 250mg/5ml Suspension 90 ml, an intestinal condition called pseudomembranous colitis can affect the patient

Ampiclox 250mg/5ml Suspension 90 ml is to be kept away from the reach of children, in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight below 25°c. Keep the suspension in the refrigerator, do not freeze it.
