Amoxil 250mg Capsule 20 'S belongs to a class of drugs called “beta-lactam antibacterials/penicillins” (broad-spectrum antibiotics) that are used to treat bacterial infections, such as chest infections (including pneumonia), UTIs (urinary tract infections), and dental abscesses. In children, it is used to treat chest infections and ear infections. They work by preventing the formation of the protective bacterial wall which is essential for the survival of the bacteria.
Amoxil 250mg Capsule 20 'S has a bactericidal mode of action which means it kills the susceptible bacteria during the phase of its active reproduction in the host cell. It does so by blocking the biosynthesis of bacterial cell-wall resulting in bacterial cell death.

Adult Dose
The usual dose is 250mg 3 times daily. In severe cases, you may double the dose. 500 mg every 8 hours is given for otitis media.
Child Dose
Children over 5 years: 250 mg 3 times daily. In severe cases double the dose.

If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, please consult your doctor before using Amoxil 250mg Capsule 20 'S. If you are breastfeeding, please consult your doctor before taking Amoxil 250mg Capsule 20 'S. However, this medication has no evidence of risk in such cases.
It is advised to complete the course of treatment even if you start feeling better. For children; the dose is usually lower. The correct dose is calculated using your child’s weight. Amoxil 250mg Capsule 20 'S can be taken before or after food. Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water (Do not chew or crush the tablet). If you find it difficult to swallow, you can break them into half and then swallow one piece after the other. For children and those who find it difficult to have tablets, you will be prescribed Amoxil 250mg Capsule 20 'S in its liquid form. You will be provided with a plastic syringe or spoon, by your pharmacist, to help you measure out the correct dose. Make sure your doses are evenly spaced throughout the day. To allow your body to adjust to the medication, your doctor will probably start you on a low dose of Amoxil 250mg Capsule 20 'S and then gradually increase it with time.
