Amoxil 125mg/5ml Syrup 90 ml belongs to a class of drugs called “beta-lactam antibacterials/penicillins” (broad-spectrum antibiotics) that are used to treat bacterial infections, such as chest infections (including pneumonia), UTIs (urinary tract infections), and dental abscesses. In children, it is used to treat chest infections and ear infections. They work by preventing the formation of the protective bacterial wall which is essential for the survival of the bacteria.
Amoxil 125mg/5ml Syrup 90 ml has a bactericidal mode of action which means it kills the susceptible bacteria during the phase of its active reproduction in the host cell. It does so by blocking the biosynthesis of bacterial cell-wall resulting in bacterial cell death.
It is used in the treatment of:
The usual dose is 250mg 3 times daily. In severe cases, you may double the dose.
Otitis media: 500 mg every 8 hours.
Severe or recurrent purulent RTI: 3 gm twice daily.
Acute UTI: 3 gm repeated once 12 hours later.
Gonorrhoea: 3 gm single dose.
Dental abscess: 3 gm repeated once 8 hours later.
Prophylaxis of endocarditis: Single 3gm dose one hour before dental procedure from which bacteremia may arise. Repeat 6 hour later if necessary.
Children over 5 yr: 250 mg 3 times daily. In severe cases double the dose.
Prophylaxis of endocarditis: Under 5 years, 750 mg; 5-10 years, 1.5 gm. (Both 1 hour before dental procedure from which bacteremia may arise)
If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, please consult your doctor before using Amoxil 125mg/5ml Syrup 90 ml. If you are breastfeeding, please consult your doctor before taking Amoxil 125mg/5ml Syrup 90 ml. However, this medication has no evidence of risk in such cases.
It is advised to complete the course of treatment even if you start feeling better. For children; the dose is usually lower. The correct dose is calculated using your child’s weight. Amoxil 125mg/5ml Syrup 90 ml can be taken before or after food. Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water (Do not chew or crush the tablet). If you find it difficult to swallow, you can break them into half and then swallow one piece after the other. For children and those who find it difficult to have tablets, you will be prescribed Amoxil 125mg/5ml Syrup 90 ml in its liquid form. You will be provided with a plastic syringe or spoon, by your pharmacist, to help you measure out the correct dose. Make sure your doses are evenly spaced throughout the day. To allow your body to adjust to the medication, your doctor will probably start you on a low dose of Amoxil 125mg/5ml Syrup 90 ml and then gradually increase it with time.

Consuming alcohol when taking Amoxil 125mg/5ml Syrup 90 ml is not known to cause any problems.

In case you miss a dose, take your next dose on time, and do not try making up for the missed dose by doubling it up. If it helps to remind you, set an alarm so you do not miss any dose. Make sure to complete your course of treatment even if you feel better and think you do not need to take it anymore.

#9. Can Amoxil 125mg/5ml Syrup 90 ml stain teeth?
If you take Amoxil 125mg/5ml Syrup 90 ml in its liquid form, it can stain your teeth. However, it is not permanent, and brushing your teeth properly will help you get rid of the stains. Capsules are not known to cause any staining.
