Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm belongs to a group of chemicals known as corticosteroids and aids in reducing swelling,redness and itchiness associated in conditions such as eczema,allergies,dermatitis and various skin rashes.Corticosteroids work by inhibiting the production of proteins that lead to inflammation.

A thin layer of Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm is to be applied on the skin with clean hands 1-2 times per day or as advised by the physician.Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm is to be used under the care and supervision of a doctor and for a specified period of time only.Application/usage of Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm is not be stopped abruptly as that may lead to a recurrence of the ailment,therefore,Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm is gradually tapered off.Patients are advised to not stop using the Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm once they see or feel an improvement in their symptoms,which is likely to occur 2-3 weeks after starting treatment with Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm.

Mild side effects such as a stinging or burning sensation may be felt at the time of application for a few days.Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm is not considered safe to be prescribed to children under one year of age,nor to pregnant and breastfeeding women.Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm should not be prescribed to patients with known sensitivity to Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm or corticosteroids.

Indications

Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm can be used to treat:

  • Endogenous eczema (for eg:atopic dermatitis, neurodermatitis) 
  • Contact eczema (skin flare-up triggered by a particular substance)
  • Blisters on soles of feet or palms of hand
  • Vulgar eczema 
  • Eczema in children.

How Does Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm Work

Corticosteroids work by inhibiting the production of proteins that lead to inflammation by interacting with the human DNA sequence and preventing the transcription of proteins needed in an inflammatory process.

How To Use Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm

A thin layer of Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm is to be applied on the skin with clean hands 1-2 times per day or as advised by the physician.Do not use a rough hand and just gently apply Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm on the affected area.Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm is not meant to be covered after application if Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm is being used on diaper rashes;caretakers are advised to losely fasten diapers in such situations.

Dosage

Adult Dosage

A thin film of Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm is to be applied once or twice a day,as instructed by a physician.

Child Dosage

Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm is not deemed safe enough to be prescribed to patients aged 12 months and younger.For patients aged 13 months and above,Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm is prescribed only when necessary and under the care and supervision of a doctor.

Elderly Dosage 

For patients aged 65 years and above,Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm is prescribed only when necessary and under the care and supervision of a doctor.A small dose of Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm is prescribed and for a limited number of days

Pregnancy Use And Lactation

This drug is not to be prescribed to expecting and lactating mothers as it may have fatal consequences for the unborn child.If you are applying Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm and become pregnant,inform your doctor immediately,the doctor will ask you to stop using Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm and is likely to replace it with a different pregnancy safe drug.It is unclear if Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm has any effect on breastmilk and therefore Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm is not prescribed to lactating women till research and evidence proves that Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm is safe.If you are planning to conceive and are taking Advantan 0.10% Ointment 10 gm as treatment,then refer to the doctor.The physician is likely to change your medicine.
